In 2023, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries acquired Doosan Infracore and rebranded the construction-equipment line as Develon. Both Hyundai Construction Equipment and Develon now operate under the same parent — but each has a distinct product lineup, dealer network, and market positioning.
Hyundai — the value tier
Hyundai R-series excavators (R220LC-9S, R380LC-9SH) compete on warranty terms (5-year/10,000-hour standard on most models) and aggressive Hyundai Capital financing. Mid-class machines deliver Korean build quality at 10-15% below Japanese pricing. Specialty variants — LR for long-reach and AMP for amphibious — are particularly competitive.
Develon — the premium tier
Develon DX-series (DX140LC-7 through DX800LC-7) inherits Doosan's reputation for engineering precision. Larger Develon machines (DX490, DX700, DX800) use Scania DC13/DC16 engines for ultra-class mining duty — a strong premium positioning against Japanese alternatives.
Which to choose
- Mid-class general construction → Hyundai R220LC-9S (cheaper, strong warranty)
- Heavy mid-class with mining-feeder potential → Develon DX380LC-7 (Scania-powered tier)
- Ultra-class mining → Develon DX700LC-7 or DX800LC-7 (the only Korean mega-class)
- Specialty long-reach or amphibious → Hyundai R220LC-9S LR / AMP variants
